The original STEPS Network (South Texas Exploration and Production Safety Network) was formed in South Texas in October, 2003 in response to the OSHA Corpus Christi Area Office reaching out to the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production industry in an attempt to reduce injuries and fatalities. In 2006, OSHA Region VI Regional Administrator recognized the STEPS Network as a best practice and encouraged his Area Directors and industry leaders to expand the program. Today the STEPS Network continues to grow and independent STEPS organizations, including the Appalachian Steps Network, have now formed in the Marcellus and Utica regions.
The Appalachian Steps Network promotes safety, health and environmental improvement in the exploration and production of oil and gas in West Virginia. The Appalachian Steps Network fosters a work environment that relies upon open communication and trust. Born from grass roots and grown through the hard work of many, our vision is to have “Incident-Free Operations”. The Appalachian Steps Network usually meets the second Thursday of the odd months at a location along the I-79 corridor between Bridgeport and Wheeling. There is no cost to attend our meetings, lunch is always provided by a sponsor, and we welcome all those who are concerned about the safety of our workers in the oil and gas industry.
